Temperatures Rising Once Again

The past 24 hours have seen times of sun and clouds, with temperatures returning from cooler back up to more seasonable average. The region saw some scattered showers this morning, followed by clearing later this morning.

As we head throughout the rest of the day today, the Commonwealth should expect more warming temperatures to above seasonal averages. We’re also expecting mostly to partly sunny skies to continue as we head throughout the rest of the day and into tomorrow.

Looking ahead, temperatures will continue to remain considerably above average for the rest of the week, with isolated showers possible on Thursday and Friday. As for the weekend, the region should expect more sustained rain possibly followed by cooler temperatures to start the weekend.

Warmup Expected This Week

Over the weekend, we experienced a large temperature drop. Highs throughout the Commonwealth reached nearly 80 degrees on Saturday, with temperatures hovering around 60 degrees for highs on Sunday after a cold front moved through. On Monday, we experienced very below average temperatures, with highs around the Commonwealth only reaching the mid 40s. Even some snow showers occurred in the Northwestern portion of Pennsylvania.

Today we should see temperatures warm up to the high 50s and low 60s, so slightly closer to average compared to the past couple days. Clouds should build throughout the area today with rain showers expected in the overnight hours.

Later in the week, temperatures will build as a ridge starts to move in throughout the Eastern US. Highs Wednesday through Friday will reach the low-to-mid 70s, with dry conditions expected. Over the weekend, temperatures will decrease and rain will move in during the overnight hours on Friday and throughout the day on Saturday.

Cold Conditions Start the Week

Winter has returned to the Commonwealth for a brief period early this week, with temperatures 15 to 20 degrees below average across much of the state. These frosty conditions arrived behind a cold front this weekend, which created a large swing in temperatures from well above average at the end of last week to well below average now. Temperatures could even dip below freezing in some areas of PA tonight bringing about a chance of snow flurries.

Conditions start to return to average as the week progresses. A low pressure system will pass through the state on Tuesday evening, bringing light rain showers. After this system passes, we shouldn’t see any additional precipitation until Friday evening.

Above Average End To The Week

Temperatures this past week have been up up up! As high as 20 degrees above the average for this time of year in State College, with temps in Philly soaring above the 90 degree mark. The warmth did not arrive with precipitation however, with showers plaguing the Commonwealth along with severe weather. Several severe thunderstorm warnings were issued by area NWS offices and tagged with considerable damage from hail.

This weekend will take a turn for the cold as temperatures head back down to Earth just in time for Earth Day next week. Rain will arrive early Sunday morning here in Happy Valley and bring the chance for a few rumbles of thunder.

The cold front on Sunday will be the main driver of cool conditions for the start of next week. Temps will shift several degrees below average, which is around 60; a stark contrast from the theme of this past week.

A Brief Taste of Summer

Tuesday was a warm, but unsettled day across the Commonwealth, with strong thunderstorms across the northern tier of the state. Regions that did not see these storms ended up with a gorgeous day, with plentiful sunshine and temperatures in the high 70s and 80s. It was a humid day, with dew points in the 50s and 60s, and more of the same is on the way.

Wednesday brings record challenging heat to the Commonwealth, with widespread 80s and 90s for all expect the Lake Erie lakeshore. Multiple reporting sites could break daily records for high temperatures. Dew points remain high, and strong to severe storms are possible in Western PA this evening, with widespread showers and downpours for the majority of the state tonight.

The rest of the week remains above average for temperatures, but not as warm as Wednesday, with temperatures hovering in the high 70s and low 80s through Saturday. A cold front will swing through the Commonwealth on Sunday, dropping temperatures back to near average for this time of the year.

Summer-Like Conditions

As April continues, temperatures were mild throughout the past weekend. Monday saw summer-like conditions with scattered thunderstorms in the evening.

Tuesday will bring significantly above average temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s, with chances of thunderstorms heading into the evening. Expect conditions to remain mostly dry and mild overnight.

Throughout the week a similar pattern will continue with summer-like daytime highs and mild evenings, with chances of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Heading into the weekend expect it to start off very warm, with a cold front blowing through the Commonwealth on Sunday, which will bring cooler temperatures.

Forget Spring, Summer has Sprung!

Forget spring, summer has sprung, with temperatures across the Commonwealth between 10 and 20 degrees above average. These temperatures will persist throughout the week, bringing about our first period of extended warmth for the year.

With this heat comes a summer-like storm pattern. Slight chances of rain will be present across the state every day this week. On Tuesday and Wednesday there will be a possibility of isolated thunderstorms.

Sunshine will briefly return on Friday, before another round of showers over the weekend. Temperatures will finally return closer to average on Sunday, feeling more like April than the rest of the week.

Temperature Rollercoaster with A Warmer Weekend

The start of this week, State College experienced milder conditions in the low 70s. However, temperature plunged on Wednesday with a low of 23 degrees with faster winds. Conditions shifted from mild to cold with mostly clear skies.

Today, expect temperatures to start warming back up to the high 60s and low 70s by this afternoon. Conditions will be noticeably warmer today than yesterday’s. There is a chance of rain in the early evening, expected to continue into the night.

This weekend, warmer conditions persist in the low to mid 60s, with partly cloudy skies and low chance of precipitation both Saturday and Sunday. Winds light and variable throughout. Next week, we can expect temperatures to exceed average in the low 80s with a chance of light rain.

Warm Up on the Way!

A cold front from last weekend caused below average temperatures but relatively clear skies. After the rainy weather on Saturday, there has been no precipitation. High pressure has been settling in the past few days.

Clear skies dominating for most of today and temperatures on the rise. Cooler conditions will remain for the morning but expect temperatures to climb above the 60s. High pressure will still remain throughout the day.

On Friday there is a slight chance of rain and temperatures will once again fall from the passing cold front. On Monday and Tuesday temperatures will rise to warm and spring-like temperatures. Both Monday and Tuesday have chances of some isolated showers.

Late Week Warmup Expected

Over the weekend, summer-like temperatures were well above average, and early Sunday morning a cold front moved through. Rain was associated with this cold front, leaving behind cooler temperatures and clouds for Easter Sunday.

This morning, we had some breezy conditions, making already below average temperatures feeling even cooler. Today we’re expecting below average temperatures with sunny conditions, with highs only reaching the low to mid 40s. Later this week, temperatures will rebound to the low 70s, however there is a chance of rain in the western portions of the Commonwealth.

Over the weekend, temperatures will remain mild with calm and clear conditions and highs in the mid to upper 60s, while high pressure overtakes the eastern United States.
